General
Requirements
- Must
be fully initiated into the faith, having received the Sacraments of
Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist a minimum of five years prior to
application.
- An
active and practicing member of a parish community, including, a good
Christian reputation and active involvement in the Church’s sacramental life
and ministries.
- Love
for the people of God, especially its poor and those on the margins.
- A
passion for service and sharing and proclaiming the Gospel with others.

Capacity for obedience, fraternal communion and a deep spiritual and prayer
life.

Recommendation of his pastor.
- 32
years of age minimum at time of application; maximum age at discretion of
the Bishop depending on health, experience and other factors.
- Good
physical and mental health.

Gainfully employed or retired.

Willingness to submit to a criminal background check and a credit report.

Sufficient time to devote to the formation program.
- If
married, a positive, stable and valid Church marriage, as well as, the oral
and written support, endorsement and consent of his wife and family. His
wife should be willing to participate in the formation process. (Note: it
is the discipline of the Church that married deacons who become widowed
will be celibate unless permission is obtained to remarry under limited
exceptions.)
- If
single (including widowers), a commitment to life long celibacy

Demonstrated leadership ability and capacity to fulfill the liturgical and
charity and justice ministry components of the diaconal ministry.
